What Makes a Hybrid Workplace Model Good for Consultants?

In today’s world of remote work, there are more opportunities for job seekers than ever before. Where geography once limited opportunities to those within a commutable distance, now employees can work from anywhere with internet access. Of course, in-person work has its benefits too — and many companies today are combining the benefits of remote and in-person work with a hybrid workplace model. In one recent example, an Eliassen Group consultant, Tarandeep Sehgal, had been working for a healthcare client as a QA engineer for almost 5 and a half years. When it turned out that her contract for the client was not extending, her recruiter, Stephen Marini, began looking for the consultant’s next role. Experienced Professional, Longstanding Relationship

With over 10 years of experience in the IT industry, Tarandeep was looking for a position where she could put her recently acquired scrum master certification to use. Stephen, who had been working with the consultant for over 5 years and had a deep knowledge of her experience, learned of a need within the company – not for a client, but an internal need for Eliassen group itself.
Rather than setting up external interviews like usual, Stephen set Tarandeep up to have conversations with internal employees from Eliassen’s recently acquired company, Lightwell. “It’s possible when you have these types of long term relationships, and the fact that location isn’t a factor helps immensely” says Stephen, talking about why it was possible to connect Tarandeep with the position that he did.

From Contract to Full Time Employee

Once it was determined that Tarandeep was right for the role, a couple of items were in order. Of course, going from W2 to full time employee for Eliassen Group provided additional benefits. What’s more, Tarandeep’s visa needed extension, which was handled completely by the company. “I’m thankful for Eliassen group for helping me throughout with my visa. I joined on a different visa, and the team members I worked with were really helpful and transparent. They were keeping me in the loop with all of the updates.” Says Tarandeep.

Beyond the paperwork, Tarandeep mentions that the transition from contractor to internal employee has been quite smooth, and that the change has pushed her career in the right direction. She says, “I did my Scrum master certification just this year. Yet, I feel like I'm using more my scrum master skills working for Eliassen Group as I was in my previous role. Here, I'm more of Scrum master, and I'm really enjoying it because I always wanted to do this.”
